CEO Message
Leaders Should Instill Hope for the Future
As we start the second half of 2006, we need we
not I teamwork. We must feel this teamwork in
our hearts. Being in the same company as someone
doesnt automatically mean you have teamwork. We
must be one in heart to have true teamwork. To
achieve this, LGE leaders must first practice
management which impresses the employees and
gives them hope a hope that our company will
continue to grow, allowing each of us to achieve
our personal vision as well.

Wall-Mount Projector Sweeps Top 3 Design Awards
On July 2, the Industrial Designers Society of
America (IDSA) awarded LG Electronics its top
award, the IDEA 2006 Gold Award, for LGEs
wall-mount projector. Since receiving the
Innovation Award at the Consumer Electronics Show
in January, the wall mounted projector has swept
the top three design awards the iF, Red Dot
Design, and the IDEA. The projector was the
worlds first to be designed especially for
wall-mounting, incorporating an L-style lens
to allow for the slim 9 cm width. Denis Weil,
Senior Director of IDSA, said This is an
innovative product that has escaped the old
paradigm of home theater projectors. For those
people who install home theater systems, this
will not only help save space, but improve the
interior design as well. .
Art Cool Campaign Expands Brazil A/C Market
Share
LG Electronics conducted a creative marketing
campaign in Brazil, based on LGEs art-frame air
conditioner. For the Art Cool Contest, LGE
commissioned 600 original paintings and framed
them in wall-mounted air conditioners. They then
allowed internet users to vote for their
favorites. More than 100,000 votes were cast, and
customers in Brazil had a fun way to find out more

about LGE products. The Art Cool Contest
helped us improve our brand recognition for air
conditioners up from 30 to more than 40. Also,
we have been inundated with inquiries on the air
conditioner and our orders for it have more than
doubled, said an LGE employee in Brazil. C.B.
Cho, head of operations for LGE there, commented
LG Electronics currently has 26 of the market
share in premium air conditioners. We believe
that with the Art Cool Contest, we can raise
that to 34 by years end. .
Change Challenge
Blue Ocean Work
Blue Ocean Work
O
ften, the most difficult part of completing work
is preparing a report on it. Thus the 33 Rules
have been introduced to help relieve some of
this stress and make the process more efficient.
When employees report, they first should have a
clear purpose. Leaders can help out by giving
specific directions, but employees must also
clarify anything they do not
understand. If the purpose is clear, employees
will know exactly what to include in the report
and what style it should be written in. Second,
employees should minimize decorations. This may
also mean just reporting in a simple text format,
without any preparation in PowerPoint. In either
case, those reporting should concentrate on
content, not appearance. Finally, the person who
prepared the report should also present it. The
author understands it the best and can answer
questions about it the best.
He or she should also be the one who presents it
in meetings. By following these simple rules,
both leaders and employees in LGE can make the
reporting process more efficient, which leads to
saved time and costs. Employees who follow these
rules will then have more time to dedicate to the
creative and value-oriented work. This will help
LGE achieve the Global Top 3 by 2010.

LGE Helps Students Serve Others and Learn Skills
L
G Electronics has found an innovative new way to
help serve those in need. Rather than planning
projects and asking for volunteers, LGE
gave interested college students the chance to
make a proposal on what they wanted to do. LGE
then chose 80 of the 260 proposals received, and
will
support those students projectss, which include
such things Korean lessons for foreign laborers
in Korea, horticulture therapy for children with
autism, and medical missions in developing
countries. The program is win-win because LGE
can help those in need, as well as help the
students learn
business skills, since the students must plan and
operate their own projects. Throughout these
projects, employees at LGE consult with
individual students about progress on their plans
and then evaluate the results. The program is
unique because it gives students the chance to
propose an idea and do all the planning
themselves, said a member of LGEs PR team. .
