- In 2001, 78 of drug deaths, were caused by a
pharmaceutical - (70 of 90 drug deaths)
- In 2002, 89 of drug deaths, were caused by a
pharmaceutical - (148 of 166 drug deaths)
- In 2003, 94 of drug deaths, had one or more
pharmaceuticals as the cause of death or a
significant contributing factor - (134 of 143 drug deaths)

4PMP Description
- Programs that collects prescription transaction
data at the pharmacy level for certain drug
Schedules. - Data is stored centrally in a large database that
can be used to detect address prescription
abuse problems. - Programs thus far are run by State agencies and
mandated by legislation.

- To improve patient care by giving providers
better information - To curb illicit prescription drug abuse
- To get those who are addicted into appropriate
treatment - To help stop prescription drug overdoses
- To educate the population on the dangers of
prescription drug abuse - To make sure that those who do need prescription
medications still receive them
7Generated Reports
- Reports reflecting thresholds that have been
exceeded for identified drugs - Patient history reports related to prescriptions
of Schedule II, III and IV drugs for prescribers - Other aggregated reports can be generated for
specialized interests and needs. - Patient History Reports will be sent back upon
request within 24 hours
