PERS OVERVIEW
  • Why PERS?
  • As healthcare costs continue to rise and seniors
become a larger percentage of the population, the
importance of enabling seniors to maintain their
independence and live in the comfort of their own
home continues to increase. PERS (personal
emergency response) systems are imperative when
seniors are living alone. These systems give
seniors peace of mind that someone will be there
when they need help, and reassure caretakers and
family that seniors will be safe when they are
    not around.
  • VRI has recently introduced a mobile
Cellular/GPS product targeted at the independent
senior. Now whether at the grocery store, taking
a walk, or playing golf, seniors will always have
someone to help and locate them at a simple press
    of a button.
  • Falls are the leading accident affecting the
    elderly population.
  • 30 of people over the age of 65 and 50 of
seniors over the age of 85 will fall this year.
The vast majority of these falls will happen in
    the home.
  • As the time that seniors are left without help
after a fall increases, the chance they will
    survive that fall declines significantly.

MEDICATION COMPLIANCE OVERVIEW
  • Why Medication Compliance?
  • Prescription monitoring ensures that seniors
remember to take the correct dosage at the right
time. Often as a result of dementia, adverse
affects of prescription drugs, or loss of memory,
elderly patients misuse their medication. If the
member does not take their medication with 30
minutes of their scheduled dose, VRI equipment
will contact the Care Center at which point a
customer care representative will call the member
to remind them to take their medication. The Care
Center will also notify the members care taker
or doctor of any non compliance events.
  • The average person over 65 now uses seven
different medications per day, four prescribed
    and three over-the-counter.
  • Almost 30 of hospital admissions for people over
the age of 65 are directly attributable to
    medication non-compliance.
  • Approximately 40 of people entering nursing
homes do so because of their inability to self
    medicate.
  • Nearly 48 billion in annual costs result from
    unnecessary medication non compliance induced
    hospitalizations.
