Resource Guide Background
  • JISC fund many resources to support learning,
    teaching and research in UK Higher Education
  • These were not necessarily widely used
  • Users may have been unaware of the resources
    available
  • Users may not have had adequate training or
    sufficient time to explore new resources

Resource Guide History
  • Social Sciences pilot 1998
  • Rolled out to Arts Humanities
  • Independent evaluation led to roll out to five
    more subject areas
  • Broadly in line with the subject areas of the
    RDN, and the LTSN centres

Resource Guide Initiative
  • JISC funding for 7 subject areas until Oct 2004
  • Subject-based approach to raising awareness of
    electronic resources relevant to the community
  • Focusing on JISC resources
  • Some non-JISC resources included to maintain
    credible subject guide

The Advisory Group

    and experience to represent the community

    specialists and librarians
  • Meet 3 times a year

Scope Policy
  • The RGEMC aims to present a manageable and
    digestible amount of information
  • Scope Policy ensures RGs
  • Do not run the risk of duplicating the work of
    other JISC funded resources
  • Strike a balance between the needs of the user
    community and the JISC
  • Developed by the RGAs, customised, and agreed by
    each RG Advisory Group

Relationship to the RDN
  • Each adviser based with/close links with RDN hub
  • Independent from RDN
  • Promote RDN hubs as part of Resource Guide
  • Natural relationship of collaboration and joint
    work
