No Greeks?
  • In the beginning, the Texas AM System did not
allow social Greeks on campus, so social groups
    formed on campus instead.
  • Eternas
  • Lords and Commoners
  • Los Cobbs
  • Owls
  • Silver Keys

6
Inception
  • Alpha Phi Omega is not a Social Greek, but is
instead dedicated to the ideas of Service,
because of this, Alpha Phi Omega had been allowed
on several other campuses in the AM System
    (namely AM itself).
  • With this knowledge, a young man named Terry
Pribble decided in the Fall of 1962 to begin
working towards bringing a chapter here.

7
Tarleton Service Club
  • Because a petitioning group needed to be formed,
the Tarleton Service Club became that venue on
campus and served its purpose for one year.
  • During this time, the group did service in the
community and made several trash barrels around
    campus.
  • The members of the club for the most part became
the first pledge class (Dean Arno Nowotny Pledge
    Class)

8
Installation
  • The chapter was installed by Xi Delta Chapter at
Texas AM on October 20, 1963 and Xi Omicron
    chapter was born.

9
Dominance!
  • Being the only game in town, APOs membership
boomed, earning them a Top 13 Chapters Award
    for 1968-1969
  • The chapter has also garnered numerous awards
such as the Joseph Scanlon and H.Roe Bartle
Awards over 15 times a piece

10
Dominance
  • Alpha Phi Omega remained the premier fraternity,
and Gamma Sigma Sigma the premier sorority on
campus until the very late 70s, when Lambda Chi
Alpha and Alpha Gamma Rho showed up on the scene

11
A Sketchy Existence
  • Even though the chapter went through some sketchy
times in the 80s and 90s, weve never managed
    to lose our charter.
  • The most recent defunction came when the chapter
was dormant for 1.5 years before the Fall of 2003.

12
Back to the Old School
  • Because we were the home chapter of Stan
Carpenter and because we happen to be one of the
most storied chapters in the history of APO,
there was an urge by the National Board of
Directors to keep our charter and the name Xi
    Omicron alive
  • They sent Adam Bolain and Jay Little to find
    people worthy of becoming brothers.
