Utilize Media and Materials
  • My lesson will take ten days to complete.
  • The following is an outline of each day.

Day 1
  • Students will take notes from a PowerPoint
    presentation.
  • Topics will include Shakespeares life,
    information on Richard Burbage, Shakespeares
    works, the Elizabethan time period, and
    Shakespeares stage.

Day 2
  • Literary Devices worksheet handed out and
    explained.
  • Begin reading Romeo and Juliet through the first
    act and discuss characters and events to lessen
    confusion about the beginning of the story.
  • If time allows, students will be permitted to
    work on their worksheets.

Day 3
  • Finish reading and discussing act 1.
  • Character Analysis worksheet on either Romeo or
    Juliet.
  • Character Analysis worksheets to be finished as
    homework and they will have to be handed in the
    next day.
  • Students will be reminded to find examples of
    each type of literary device for their worksheet.

Day 4
  • Character Analysis worksheets will be taken up.
  • We will read through the second act and start on
    the third.
  • Discuss and analyze what is happening thus far in
    the play.
  • Students will be reminded to find examples of
    each type of literary device for their worksheet.

Day 5
  • Finish reading through acts 3 and 4.
  • Discuss and analyze new changes and events and
    how the characters have been affected.
  • Students will be reminded to find examples of
    each type of literary device for their worksheet.

Day 6
  • Finish reading the story and discuss students
    thoughts, questions, and opinions of the play.
  • Review transitions and transitional phrases.
  • For homework students will write a summary of the
    play using the events they found to be crucial to
    the story.
  • Students will be reminded to find examples of
    each type of literary device for their worksheet.

Day 7
  • Students will edit and revise each others
    essays, type them, and complete a Parts of Speech
    exercise.
  • For homework students will come up with five
    different, more appropriate word choices for each
    part of speech.
  • Students will be reminded to complete their
    literary device worksheets that are to be handed
    in the following day.

Day 8
  • Test will be given.
  • Students will turn in their parts of speech
    stories, their Romeo and Juliet essays, and their
    Literary Devices worksheet.
  • Students will begin watching William
    Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet.

Day 9
  • Students will continue watching movie.

Day 10
  • Students will finish the movie, receive their
    graded tests, and worksheets.
  • If time permits, they will also receive their
    graded essays and an update on their class
    progress.

Require Learner Participation
  • Visual learners PowerPoint presentation,
    in-class discussions, worksheets, and the video.
  • Auditory learners verbally going over slides,
    and reading aloud and hearing their classmates
    read aloud.
  • Kinesthetic learners using the internet site for
    finding definitions but more importantly the
    parts of speech exercise where the activity
    involves movement through use of the mouse.

Evaluate Revise
  • Students final grades will comprise of their
    test scores, completion and correctness of their
    Literary Devices worksheets, Character Analysis
    worksheets, Parts of Speech stories with
    alternate word choices, and their essays.
