- African Americans have had an impact upon slavery
by working as abolitionists and helping to free
others from bondage.
- They worked to eliminate segregation.
- Some began schools and colleges to educate other
African Americans.
- Some were pioneers in their field such as sports,
science, or medicine.
- Today many African Americans are high ranking
officials in our nations government.
- Their accomplishments and contributions are
varied and numerous.
3Harriet Tubman
- She was called Moses of her people.
- She helped free slaves through the Underground
Railroad.
- She was considered a fugitive because of her
efforts to help others.

4Mary McCloud Bethume
- Mary McCloud Bethume founded Bethume-Cookman
College for women in Florida in 1904.
- She was vice-president of the NAACP.
- She served as a consultant, delegate, and advisor
in interracial affairs.

- Rosa Parks was a seamstress in Montgomery.
- In 1955 she defied segregation by refusing to
give up her seat on a bus.
- This began the Montgomery Bus Boycott which was
led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
