Approach

• An inexpensive secure microprocessor is installed
  in every video device.
• Enhanced smart card secure micro.
• Keyed with a secret at a PolyCipher facility.
• Performs a secure bootstrap.
• Security clients (e.g., conditional access) can
  be downloaded over the network.
• No hardware install or swap required for any
  device (set-top box, TV, etc.).
• CableLabs will license and certify implementers.

Advantages

• Like CableCARD, facilitates access of box and
  consumer electronics manufacturers
• but does it for less hardware cost per device,
  and
• eliminates the need to inventory and deliver
  hardware modules.
• The economics are compelling.
