WE MISS YOU, TOBY!
As a distinguished professor, Tobys achievement
is not only reflected in his written books or
published articles, but, more importantly, the
many lives that he has deeply touched.
White River Rafting (Summer of 2000)
In the Summer of 2000, Toby took Lucy, Eugene,
and Kai to white water rafting. The picture was
taken right before the boat was about to flip. As
you can see, Eugene was scared, Lucy lost her
paddle, and Toby was the only one who remained
calm, as he always did. The next second, our boat
was overturned, and all of us were thrown into
the rapids. Later, Toby showed us a newspaper
report saying that three people were killed at
the place where our boat was overturned. Gee, he
is really a gutsy man, isnt he?! Eugene
This picture was taken at San Diego Zoo when Toby
took Lucy, Jian, and Eugene to the Public Choice
Conference in 2000. Curious about everything,
soon, Toby ran out of our horizons. Eventually we
got hold of him and took this picture. This was
the first experience for Jian and Eugene of
attending a conference in the United
States. Eugene
Although Toby had taught many of his students
driving, he probably had a special memory about
teaching me. I took me three times to pass the
road test after we explored pretty much all
possible ways of helping me pass the parallel
parking test from Greensburg to North Hill, and
from Tobys old Chrysler to his new Honda. He
showed me how to be a patient yet persistent
teacher, and taught me to never give up on myself
on anything. Yuqing
