Educational Programs (CACREP)
- CACREP is an independent agency recognized by the
Council for Higher Education Accreditation to
accredit master's and doctoral degree programs in
counseling - CACREP establishes best practices for the
graduate level training of counselors - CACREP emphasizes common core of knowledge and
skills for all professional counselors - The UNLV Department of Counselor Educations
graduate programs are fully accredited by CACREP

- CED 701 Introduction to Counseling
- CED 727 Counseling Process Procedures
- Grade of B or better is required in CED 701 and
- in CED 727 in order to continue in the CED
- graduate program.

12Certifications Licensure
- CED students eligible to take National Counselor
Examination (NCE) to obtain National Counselor
Certification (NCC) credential. Other specialty
certifications are available after obtaining the
NCC School Counselor (NCSC) and Clinical Mental
Health Counselor (CCMHC) - Graduates of the Clinical Mental Health
Counseling program are eligible to apply for
licensure as a clinical professional counselor
(LCPC) in Nevada - School counseling majors can pursue the CED
certificate in clinical mental health counseling
to be eligible for the Nevada LCPC license
13Field Experiences
- Practicum 100 supervised hours in approved
community setting (both specialties) - Spring semester only
- Must make B or better in Counseling Process
Procedures (CED 727) to take Practicum - Internship
- Fall and Spring semester only
- School Counseling 600 hours
- Clinical Mental Health Counseling 900 hours
14Student Homework and Details
- An advisement list will be sent out the first
week of fall term - All new students are expected to make an
appointment and meet with their faculty advisors
prior to mid-term during the fall semester - All new students must have liability insurance by
9/15/2009 - All students must join a professional
organization by 9/15/2009 - All students must be fingerprinted by fall
semesters end 2009 - All students must send in an electronic facial
photo to Yolanda Covington at yolanda.covington_at_un
lv.edu by September 2009 - All students must sign the agreement form in the
back of the student handbook and hand it into
Yolanda Covington by 9/15/2009 - All students must sign up for and use their Rebel
mail email accounts when communicating with the
faculty or for departmental business
