2The Beechdean Farm Background
The Beechdean Dairy Farm is located in the heart
of Buckinghamshires Chiltern Hills. It is an
independent company which operates from its own
600 acre farm.
The farm has two types of cows. 120 Jersey cows
and 270 Friesian cows. They are milked twice a
day to provide fresh, top quality milk. The milk
from Jersey cows are used to make Beechdean Dairy
ice cream and milk from Friesian cows are sent to
the market as fresh milk.
Andrew and Susie Howard started the Beechdean
Dairies in 1090. It has been producing top

5Profile 4 Beechdean farmThe Affect of
Government Policies
- Government policies affecting Beechdean Farm are
- Milk quotas, this is a means of stabilising
production across the EU. Restricting the amount
of dairy products which the farm is allowed to
export, Leading to less money. This happened to
Beechdean farm and they meditated on leaving the
dairy business, then, the owners wife came up
with a brilliant idea. Half of their stock would
be used for milk and the other half was to be
used for making ice creams. In the first year
they sold 5000litres of ice cream(this was in
1989),now, they are selling nearly 2.5million
litres of ice cream. - Fall in Prices There have been a fall in price
where the farmers have to sell their dairy
product for very low prices. This can cut their
salaries a lot and lower their income. Their ice
cream helps them with this issue. -)
6Scientific Advances

- In 1989 developed an ice cream sector.

van. - Only delivered to local customers
- Beginning of company
- Business has grown over time.
8The End
The whole system of the farm including the
inputs, the process and the feed back made the
farm better and helped them to make a greater
profit. With the help of technology, better
machinery and better knowledge in the management
of the farm and the proper raising of the
animals.
