History of the Statue of Liberty
  • The Statue of Liberty was given to the United
    States by France to celebrate the of the
    friendship that formed between the 2 nations
    during the American Revolution.
  • It was supposed to be given to mark the
    centennial anniversary of the United States
    independence from England.
  • However, because the two nations had trouble
    raising the money needed to build the statue, it
    arrived 10 years after the 100th anniversary in
    1886.

The Construction of the Statue of Liberty
  • The statue was transported from France to the
    United States and was re-assembled on a new
    pedestal that took four months to do.
  • The Statue was placed on a pedestal inside the
    courtyard of Fort Wood on what is today Ellis
    Island, New York.
  • On October 28th, 1886 the statue was unveiled.
