7When did the Jaycees Organization Begin?
- 1920
- Founded by Henry Giessenbier
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Began as the Herculaneum Dance Club
8The US Jaycees History
- The 1920s
- 1923 The Get Out The Vote program was the first
Jaycee program to receive National endorsement - 1927 Jaycee Charles Lindbergh made the first
solo flight between New Your and Paris. The
Jaycees worked with Lindbergh to develop the U.S.
Air Mail Service - 1930s
- 1936 The National Wildlife Federation is
established with the guidance of the USJC - 1938 The USJC name the Ten Outstanding Young Men

- 1940s
- 1946 USJC established permanent headquarters in
Tulsa Oklahoma - 1947 The adoption of the Jaycee Creed
- 1950s
- 1954 The first Outstanding Young Farmer program
was held - 1959 The Jaycees supported statehood for Alaska
and Hawaii gained statehood the following year
due to Jaycee effort

- 1961 The First Governmental Affairs Leadership
Seminar (GALS) was held - 1970s
- 1972 Operation Identification Program to combat
burglaries and aid in crime prevention efforts - 1972 Operation Red Ball 5 million stickers were
distributed to reduce fire fatalities

- 1984 By law change admitted women as full and
regular members - 1985 The U.S. Jaycees endorsed the Campaign for
Liberty program, for the restoration of the
Statue of Liberty - 1990s
- 1993 The Jaycees Against Youth Smoking (JAYS)
program was adopted

- 2000 First female elected National President
- 2001 Name changes to The United States Junior
Chamber - 2004 Bylaw change established membership age as
18 - 40
