  • Hands On Network brings people together to
    strengthen communities through meaningful
volunteer action. Hands On New Orleans, meets
critical community needs through the effective
mobilization of volunteers in New Orleans. To
date, more than 4,200 visiting volunteers have
delivered over 316,000 hours of service focused
on the recovery and rebuilding of New Orleans.
  • The Allstate Foundation, founded in 1952, is an
    independent charitable organization funded by
contributions from subsidiaries of  The Allstate
Corporation. The Allstate Foundation is dedicated
to fostering safe and vital communities where
people live, work, and raise families.
  • On June 25th, 2008, The Allstate Foundation and
Hands On New Orleans collaborated for a memorable
day of service at the East Shore Playground in
New Orleans East. The efforts of over 40
volunteers resulted in the re-building of a
  • neighborhood baseball field and the
    refurbishment of the playgrounds facilities.

East Shore Playground
  • East Shore Playground is located at 14600 Curran
Blvd. in the Little Woods neighborhood of New
Orleans East. Pre-Katrina, it was home to over 3
acres of green space, including a playground, a
basketball court and 2 baseball diamonds.
  • As a result of Hurricane Katrina, the Little
Woods neighborhood suffered severe flood damage
with water reaching as high as 6-8 feet
throughout the area. Not one home was spared from
major damage and all of the recreational space
that East Shore Playground provided was quickly
destroyed by toxic floodwater. The park had
undergone no maintenance since before the storm
in 2005, and all of its playing fields were
overgrown and unusable as of May 2008.
