    and its relevance to work after graduation.

  • What it involves
  • Attending 2 workshops Feb 9th 16th 09 _at_ 4-6pm
  • Setting learning goals for yourself, based on the
    SAS experience but linked also to wider
    employability skills.
  • Producing a portfolio which demonstrates learning
    against the goals you have set.
  • And you have
  • Support of a dedicated electives tutor in your
    department

  • When we receive an online application form we
    check that you propose suitable experience
    (which you should have).
  • You need to check with your personal tutor that
    your degree permits electives (some courses
    dont).
  • Finally, make sure that your course administrator
    changes your option choice for Semester 2 to the
    Life unit.

4. The Programme
  • Attendance at Training Sessions is Compulsory. If
    there are exceptional circumstances why you will
    be absent please let the SAS Administrator know
  • Some training will relate to core goals
  • The full schedule of Training is available in the
    Handbook (P6)

  • Opportunity to meet and talk with PGCE ITT
    Trainees in Schools
  • Opportunity to participate in Up for IT and
    Childrens University. Info to be given at
    Training 2.
  • Opportunity to sometimes continue working
    voluntarily at the School

5. Placements P7
  • Given placement by Tuesday 25th November (in
    most cases)
  • Can arrange placement in home town
  • 15 days in School single days/block/combination
  • Induction with Professional/Subject mentor
  • Visits to some schools from SAS Tutor
  • Contact Schools at least 3 weeks before you
    intend to start
  • Contact SAS Administrator as soon as dates agreed

7. Description of Role P7
  • Full description in Handbook (P7)
  • Additionally
  • Required to travel to Schools Cost normally out
    of 40 per day
  • CRB Check for all students
  • 50 Deposit to be banked on non-completion of the
    Scheme

8. Professional Conduct P8
  • Make sure you read and understand must and
    must not points
  • Dress smartly (no jeans!)
  • Do not be alone with a pupil at anytime
  • University have right to remove an Associate from
    a School in extreme circumstances

8.1 Additional Tasks P9
  • Be busy at all times fulfilling the role. Be
    pro-active
  • Do not hog staff room chairs, computers etc.

9. Assessment Material P10
  • Portfolio (P5)
  • Mentor Evaluation and Report comment on
  • Contribution to Raising Aspirations
  • Potential to become a teacher
  • Impact on the School and Pupils
  • All documentation on SECS website
  • Portfolios to be handed in to SAS Administrator.
    Copies cannot be returned please take a copy
    before submission.

10. Finance P10
  • No payment will be made until the full 15 days
    has been completed and work submitted
  • Payment deadlines are in the SAS Handbook (P10)
  • Timesheets to be signed by Professional/Subject
    mentor

11. Certification P11
  • Certificate detailing role and certifying
    completion of 15 day placement
  • Certificate and Review presentation to take place
    in June/July
