Time Zones

• 1. The earth rotates at 15o per hour. Thus, it
  takes 24 hours to make one complete rotation.
  (24 hrs x 15o 360o)
• 2. For every 15oof longitude one moves, the time
  change is one hour.
• 3. If you move 15o in an eastern direction, the
  time is one hour later. If you move in a western
  direction, the time is one hour earlier.

• To go from degrees to hours, you divide by 15.
• To go from hours to degrees, you multiply by 15.

Example How many degrees of longitude does 4
hours represent? 4 hours x 15o/hour
60o. Example How many hours does 45o equal? 45o
divided by 15o/hour 3 hours.
