Conflicts Over Sabbath 121-13
  • Pharisees call it unlawful to snack in the
    field on the Sabbath. 1-9
  • Jesus reminds them that even King David
    innocently broke the Sabbath once, as do the
    priest every Sabbath. 3-5
  • Jesus claims a greater rank than the Temple. 6
  • Jesus accuses them of ignoring the Scripture that
    teaches God want mercy more than sacrifice. 7-8
  • Jesus claims to be Lord of the Sabbath. 9
  • Jesus shows the Pharisees that it is lawful to do
    good on the Sabbath. 10-14
  • He heals a man on the Sabbath at synagogue.
  • He reasons with them on sheep and people.

Serious Conflict With Pharisees 1214-44
  • Pharisees conspire to destroy Jesus and he
    withdraws, asking to keep his identity secret.

  • Birds eat up roadside seed.
  • Plants in rocks start quickly and wither quickly.
  • Plants in thorns grow, than are choked out.
  • Plants in good soil grow and multiply.

The Sower Explained - 1318-23
  • Roadside The evil one snatches the word from a
    hearers heart before it takes root.
  • Rocky After quick joyful reception of the word,
    hearer falls away in the face of affliction or
    persecution.
  • Thorny After hearing the word, worries and
    riches choke out the word and it is unfruitful.
  • Good After hearing and understanding the word
    the hearer bears much fruit.

The Tares 1324-30 36-43
  • An enemy planted weeds in a mans good wheat
    field.
  • The servants were ready to uproot the weeds, but
    theowner said wait until the wheat is mature,
    so you dont kill it in the process.
  • At harvest, collect and burnthe weeds, then
    harvest the wheat.
  • Jesus plants sons of the kingdom and the devil
    plants his sons.
  • At the end of the age, angels take stumbling
    blocks and lawless people out of the kingdom and
    cast them in the fiery furnace.
  • Then the righteous shine like the sun.

Return to Nazareth - 1353-58
  • When Jesus preaches in the Nazareth synagogue,
    people are amazed.
  • However, they see him as the carpenters son -
    and they all know Mary and her sons James,
    Joseph, Simon, and Judas.
  • Jesus says, A prophet is not without honor
    except in his hometown and in his own household.
  • Because of disbelief, he does few miracles there.
