• Media piracy has been around for a while
• Copy rented movies to VHS tapes
• Evolved into digital formats with the internet
  and CD burners
• Old media had few security measures
• Computer game and audio CDs could be copied
  easily with a CD burner.
• Virtually no way to get caught

• The advent of Napster changed media piracy
  forever
• First widely popular p2p
• Public became aware/able to use
• Distinguished members of music
• community speak against piracy
• Sparked regulatory organizations
• to crack down on piracy

• Interpret the information fed and saved all over
  the internet when attempting to DL illegal media
• Fair share
• Estimated Job Loss 70,000
• Fight by hunting head honchos of piracy
• In addition to major contributors to piracy, the
  RIAA focuses on college students

• Not considered as big of a threat to piracy
• Audio piracy considered a more common form of
  piracy
