Title: An Chem 153 educational unit on the technique of Soft Lithography

1
An Chem 153 educational unit on the technique of
Soft Lithography
UW Nanotechnology User Facility
National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network
(NNIN)
2
The Unit
  • Pre-project assessment to gauge students prior
    knowledge and conceptions
  • Class discussion overview of technique
  • Hands-on laboratory experiment
  • Research to understand chemistry behind method
  • Research on present future applications
  • Student presentations
  • Post-project assessment to gauge understanding

3
Student Focus Groups
  • Well cover the spectrum of topics, with some
blending between specific aspects of soft
    lithography

Each group will also discuss present applications
and speculate about possible future applications
4
Student Focus Groups you become the expert !
  • Template preparation stamp production
  • Gold/sulfur chemistry immobilization strategies
  • Resist Chemistry (positive/negative) surface
    etching methods
  • Surface modification, functionalization,
    coupling chemistry (linkers)
  • Biological applications
  • Materials development
  • Solvent assisted monolayers molding
  • Imaging, analysis characterization

5
Photo-Lithography
Positive Resist the portion of the photoresist
exposed to light becomes soluble to the
photoresist developer. The portion of the
photoresist that is unexposed remains insoluble
to the photoresist developer. Negative Resist is
the opposite
