The message of Jeremiah
  • Idolatry and disloyalty to God invite punishment
  • Yet the people would not finally be outcast from
    the grace of God
  • Exile as a discipline would be remedial
  • The State was doomed
  • The Temple would be destroyed
  • Personal faith in God was the key

JEREMIAHS MESSAGE
  • True shepherds bring together, lead, and cherish
    their flock.
  • Judahs Kings were doing the reverse. They were
destroying, scattering and generally failing to
    care.

21
JEREMIAHS MESSAGE
  • Conduct has consequences (v. 2).
  • These Kings, who had abused the trust bestowed
upon them, would be punished for their evil.

22
JEREMIAHS MESSAGE
  • True security is to be found in relationship with
    God (verses 3-4).
  • Just as God rescued His people from Egypt, so too
will God rescue His people from exile.

23
JEREMIAHS MESSAGE
  • I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out
of all the countries where I have driven them .

24
JEREMIAHS MESSAGE
  • The days are coming when I will raise up a
descendant of King David who will reign wisely
and do what is right in the land and whose
name will be indicative of his nature the Lord
    Our Righteousness.

25
JEREMIAHS MESSAGE
  • The different layers foreshadow the Kingdom
  • which (then) was to come
  • which (now) has come
  • God will raise up a King, Jesus
  • He will reign, wisely
  • If we live under His rule, we will be secure
  • We do not deserve to live in His Kingdom, but by
grace he has made it possible.

26
JEREMIAH APPLICATION
  • Where may true security be found?
  • How can I support the Create leaders?
  • Is God perhaps calling me to be a leader?

27
JEREMIAH 231-8
  • A righteous branch
  • The days are coming when I will raise up from
Davids line a righteous Branch, a King who will
reign wisely and do what is just and right in the
land. This is the name by which he will be
    called The Lord Our Righteousness.
