NOUN
  • A noun is a word used to name a person, animal,
    place, thing, or abstract idea.
  • Examples
  • boy, kitten, park, desk, death

Common Nouns vs. Proper Nouns
  • A proper noun is the NAME of a particular person,
    place or thing.
  • A common noun is the name of any one or more than
    one person, place or thing.
  • For example
  • school is a common noun
  • Mercy Vocational High School is a proper noun
  • ALL PROPER NOUNS GET CAPITALIZED!!

VERB
  • A verb is an ACTION word
  • It is what the subject of the sentences is DOING
  • Examples
  • is, work, smell, do, hold,

Rule
  • Every sentence must have both a noun and a verb
  • Example The simplest sentences is
  • I am.

ADJECTIVE
  • An adjective is a word that DESCRIBES a noun.
  • It usually come before the word that it describes
  • Examples
  • beautiful, scary, mean, many, few

ADVERB
  • An adverb is a word that describes a verb
  • It usually shows HOW something is done
  • For example
  • slowly, quickly, etc
  • It also can describe an adjective
  • For example
  • He is very fast.

PRONOUN
  • A pronoun can replace a specific noun to make the
    sentence less repetitive.
  • Examples
  • he, she, I, you, we, they, it

Conjunction
  • A conjunction is a word that connects two phrases
    in a sentence.
  • For example
  • and, but, or, yet, for, nor, so
  • because, before, since

Preposition
  • A preposition is a word that links nouns or
    pronoun to other words in a sentence.
  • Many times it explains distance or space
  • Example
  • The book was on the table.
