• How cells divide and thus increase in numbers.

Interphase

• Cell is doing normal day-to-day job.
• DNA is unwound, accessible to make proteins.
• But waiting for a signal to divide and multiply.
• Signal is a protein called RAN begins to effects
  other proteins

Prophase

• DNA replicates itself.
• Nuclear envelope disappears.
• DNA winds up into chromosomes (23 for humans)
  which look like an X.
• All the parts needed for division form.

Metaphase

• Cell resembles the earth at this point.
• Chromosomes lie along the equator.
• At the North and South poles, fibers reach out
  and pull chromosome towards the poles.
• Chromosomes split at the middle of the X.

Anaphase

• A complete set of DNA migrates toward each pole.
• Cell is starting to form into 2 spheres.
• For instance, a clown who makes animals out of
  balloons.

Telophase

• DNA has now reach it final destination.
• Parts needed for division break apart.
• The cell membrane pinches off.
• Nuclear envelope forms in both daughter cells.
• Chromosomes unwind to begin growth and
  development again.
