Why BCU decided to align with the Coaching
Framework
  • Findings from the paddle sport review 2002
  • (UK wide consultation)
  • The need for Long Term Paddler Development
  • Political pressure from Government to all NGBs
  • Pressure from Sports Coach UK to join the scheme
  • Decided by UK representation
  • at BCU / NSG (home nation rep)

  • Better opportunities for paddlers
  • Better coaching for paddlers
  • Better education for coaches
  • Better professional opportunities for coaches
  • No unnecessary re-training
  • Robust APL

What Sports Coach UK want to achieve (does it
fit?)
  • Create a cohesive, ethical, inclusive and valued
    coaching system where skilled coaches support
    children, players and athletes at all stages of
    their development.
  • Become number 1 by 2016

Issues attached to being on the framework
  • Development is controlled by Sports coach UK
  • High degree of matching and cross referencing the
    awards to the framework
  • Less flexibility in the scheme
  • Increase in cost
  • Time needed to obtain awards
  • Retraining needed for trainers
  • CANI is a delivery centre which adds
  • Increased paperwork for
