Title: International Courses delivered by EADTU Members across Europe

1
International Courses delivered by EADTU Members
across Europe
  • Towards Lisbon 2010
  • Rome November 2005
  • Joergen Bang
  • President
  • European Association of Distance Teaching
  • Universities (EADTU)

2
EADTU mission
  • The mission of EADTU is to contribute to the
development of a European Learning Space by
supporting the enhancement of learning through
the use of technology (e.g. e-learning) and by
    promoting state-of- the-art educational networks
in the field of lifelong and flexible
    learning, virtual mobility, and quality
    assurance and accreditation.

3
The European framework
  • THE LISBON STRATEGY to become the most
competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy
in the world 2010 in which E-leaning play an
    essential role
  • THE BOLOGNA PROCESS towards the creation of a
European Area of Higher Education by 2010
realized through collaboration among high quality
    higher education institutions.

4
e-Bologna
  • In 2003, EADTU launched a strategy called
e-Bologna with the overall goal to create a
European e-environment for the Bologna process.
  • The ambition is to create a digital network
integrating the activities of the national and
regional universities into a synergy network in
    e-learning

5
Academic collaboration
  • A Task Force on Academic Collaboration (TFAC)
was established in February 2005 as a result of
a meeting among associations within EADTU
    focusing on
  • Virtual mobility - offering an international/
    European learning experience
  • Curriculum collaboration joint degrees, joint
    course production
  • Non-formal collaboration net-based discussions.

6
Portal of international courses
  • Courses should be in English
  • (later may be other European languages)
  • Courses should be e-learning courses -
    distance education
  • Information template
  • field, university, country, title, keywords,
ECTS, level of course (BA-MA), hyperlink to
    elaborated description at home university

7
EPECA
  • Embedded Portal for European-wide Course
    Accessibility
  • A Minerva project addressing the 2006 priorities
providing access to existing resources in
    academic education
  • courses listed on the EPECA portal remain
embedded in their own pedagogical concept and
methodological/ didactical approach as develop by
the offering university. Each course will
have/keep its own didactical model. However, the
course must make it possible to be delivered as a
stand-alone course for distance education, in the
English language (not excluding the origin
language). Courses should maintain their quality
    level, as was originally intended.

8
EADTU strategy
  • The EPECA application together with the
    recently accepted e-learning project on
Virtual Mobility and the already running
project on E-excellence offer a superb
    framework for exploring collaboration
    opportunities within EADTU.
  • All three initiatives in combination support
the long-term EADTU strategy of creating a
European learning space for lifelong open and
    flexible distance education
