Code Team
  • A large team response to a life threatening
    change in patient condition.
  • ACLS trained team from Int Med, Critical Care and
    Anesthesia
  • As well at RT, Pharmacy, EKG who else should be
    here??
  • Essential for emergent airway management
  • Second Year Medical Residents responsible to run
    the code.
  • Available to all inpatients all outpatients
    are 911 response
  • Resuscitation Committee reviews
  • All code activity
  • Policy and Practice here at UCH and Nationally
  • Data and Trend review here at UCH and Nationally

Medical Emergency Team (MET)
  • The Medical Emergency Team here at UCH is a
    service provided by the Critical Care and
    Respiratory Therapy Departments to partner with
    primary staff to assess and manage a patient who
    demonstrates instability criteria

Goals of the MET
  • Convene a team for
  • Early and rapid intervention
  • Rescuing patients
  • Prevention of cardiac arrests
  • Diminish need for transfer to ICU
  • Implement plan and terminate MET within 1 hour

Stroke Alert ResponseTime is tissue
  • Call for
  • Any change or alteration in neuro status
  • Any inpatient suspected stroke (outpatients are a
    911 response)
  • Convenes a team of MDs and PAs
  • Goal
  • To expedite imaging
  • To intervene with TPA within 3 hour window if
    needed
  • To accelerate transfer to higher level of care as
    indicated
  • May also access MET
  • For neuro assessment
  • for critical care coverage if indicated

  • If patient unresponsive call a Code
  • (even w/ VS present)
  • If patient needs an airway managed call a Code
    (even w/ VS present)
  • Any change in neuro status call a Stroke Alert
  • Anything else call the MET
  • Code MET Stroke
