What are blogs

• classic blog is very simple resembling a
  regularly updated webpage with time stamped
  commentary on top.

Three basic blog types

• micro journal
• provides brief time stamped entries (840 A.M.
  Sept 2 2000. I went to work, etc),
• tedious to read.
• first type of blog

• The second type of blog is a notebook
• Ernst compares it to a journal or diary with
  essay type entries
• These type of blogs are popular with people who
  want to talk about their situations and with news
  agencies.

• The third type of blog is the filter,
• This type of blog links to other websites or web
  pages.
• The hyperlink is usually accompanied with
  commentary from the publisher.

Getting started

• Ernst explains how
• creating and maintaining a blog can be as simple
  as signing up for a free account and starting to
  type
• if you have a web server you can host your own
  blog with little to no programming.

• This type of service allows you to select your
  design theme and provides software and demos.

Blog requirements

• Ernst explains the minimum hardware, software
  and service requirements for blogging if you
  intend to use a personal web-server.
• Some of these requirements include
• 400MHz clock speed, support software (e.g.
  Apache, Microsoft IIS. Perl, etc)
• editorial policies.
• The real key to a successful blog design is the
  blog software. The software must support your
  requirements.

  includes, creating, cataloging and publishing
  entries,
• Ernst provides tips on overcoming the biggest
  challenge of blogging (keeping the blog current
  even though no one may be reading it).
