Title: America At Ease

1
America At Ease
Amos 61-6
2
  • Israel was experiencing great prosperity, but it
was short lived because of their widespread
    idolatry.
  • There are many similarities between Israel and
    the United States now.
  • Both were born on Godly principles
  • Both achieved great recognition from their wealth
    and military power.
  • Both strayed from God who enabled them to have
    such success.

Israel was judged by God, and brought to her
knees. We have to wonder if that same fate
awaits our country. Gods warnings have been
ignored much too long. If the US is going to be
salvaged, churches must start making a
difference. Our problem appears to be that we are
at ease just like those in Amos day. Weve been
stricken with spiritual apathy. Our nation is
accountable for turning her back on God.
4
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SERVICE
  • We have security (vs.1).
  • Zion was a stronghold, the Holy City.
  • Did they think being Gods Chosen, He had to
    bless them?
  • Did they think God would never punish them?
  • We are suppose to be a people zealous of good
    works (Titus 214).
  • What ever happened to sacrificial service?

5
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SERVICE
  • Weve become prideful (vs.1).
  • Israel saw themselves as king of the hill, and
didnt believe it would ever change.
  • They had great pride in how powerful they had
    come.
  • Are we seeking a Position or a Place of Service?

6
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SERVICE
  • We need Soul-Searching (vs.2-3).
  • Amos warns them to look around, and remember how
    other countries fell.
  • Many great empires thought they were above defeat
    but fell.
  • Many great Christians also (1 Corinthians 1012).
  • If America continues to ignore God, what makes us
believe we will not fall also?
  • Hopefully, we can see the importance of prayer
and work, so our nation may be rescued from
    certain doom (Mark 929).

7
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SIN
  • Their Disillusionment
  • In a day when God wanted commitment, the people
    wanted banquets and parties.
  • Instead of grieving over their sin, they could
only think of their own self-interests.
  • Their Decor (vs.4).
  • Their furniture was the most extravagant they
    could find.
  • Materialism was the name of the game.

8
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SIN
  • Their Delinquency (vs.4).
  • They were stretched out, relaxing showing their
    laziness.
  • They were neglecting their responsibilities and
failing at their duties (2 Thess.310).
  • Their Diet (vs.4).
  • Having an abundance of food wasnt enough, they
    wanted the choices of cuts.
  • No country in the world throws away as much food
    as we do.

9
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SIN
  • Their Deterioration (vs.5).
  • Music always tells the direction people are
    taking.
  • Certainly we can see how far America has slid.
  • Their Drinking (vs.6).
  • There was a time in America when you didnt have
to explain the harm of alcohol and drugs to
    Christians.
  • Many need to read Gods Word closely.

10
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SIN
  • Their Deodorant (vs.6).
  • They had to have the most rare perfumes.
  • They thought smelling good on the outside would
cover the stench on the inside.
  • Their Decadence (vs.6).
  • Josephs brothers had no concern for his
    well-being.
  • They had no concern for the things of God.
  • We will always ignore others need when we focus
    on ourselves.

11
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SALVATION
  • The Saint
  • One of our cardinal doctrines is the eternal
    security of the believer.
  • Many criticize Baptist for believing what the
    Bible teaches.
  • They think once we are saved we can do whatever
    we want.

12
  • AT EASE WITH OUR SALVATION
  • The Sentenced
  • How can we be at ease when people are dying and
    going to Hell?
  • How can we not be stirred up when we see the
    wickedness all around us?
  • How can we relax when there is so much work to be
    done for our Master?
  • Jesus wants us to follow Him (Mat.419).
  • Either we are fishing for men, or were not
    following Him.
