  become more ideologically distinct.
• Voters are increasingly able to distinguish
  between the ideology of the two parties.
• As a result, voters now base their voting
  decision more on ideology than they used to.

  use both partisanship and ideology to make
  political judgements
• Ideology stresses a policy considerations in
  making decisions
• Partisanship stresses psychological attachments
  to the parties
