Title: From the beginning

1
  • From the beginning

2
In His Image
  • Mankind (male/female) was the product of GODS
    purpose.
  • Mankind was the culmination of GODS entire
    creative process.
  • Everything that was created before them was
    necessary for them.

3
In the beginning
  • And the LORD God said, It is not good that man
should be alone I will make him a helper
comparable to him. (Genesis 218 NKJV)
  • Not good Adam was incomplete.
  • Alone Adam did not have an adequate companion.
  • A helper Adam needed help!
  • Comparable someone like him, but different.
  • Mental, spiritual, emotional, social, physical
    friend.

4
I will make him
  • GOD is perfectly able to supply our needs!

5
woman from man
  • Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from
man He made into a woman, and He brought her to
    the man. (Genesis 222 NKJV)
  • Adams life would become her life.
  • Man is the image and glory of God but woman is
the glory of man. For man is not from woman, but
woman from man. Nor was man created for the
woman, but woman for the man (1 Corinthians
    117-9 NKJV)
  • If man is the head (1 Corinthians 113),
woman is the crown (Proverbs 124).
  • (Somebody)

6
woman from man
  • Not made out of his head to rule over him.
  • Nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him.
  • But out of his side to be equal with him.
  • Under his arm to be protected.
  • And near his heart to be loved.

7
GOD defines marriage.
  • Therefore a man shall leave his father and
mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall
become one flesh. (Genesis 224 NKJV)

8
Leave
  • First, there is the intention to live together.
  • Azab to depart from, to leave behind, to leave,
to let alone (Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew
    Lexicon).
  • A man and a woman must first commit themselves to
    leave father and mother.
  • your wife by covenant. (Malachi 214 NKJV)
  • A clear and final break must be made between a
new family and the two original families.
  • Fathers and mothers must not be permitted to
interfere, regulate, dominate, or control the
    marriages of their children.

9
Cleave
  • Hebrew dabaq to cling, to stick, to stay
close, to cleave, to keep close, to stick to, to
stick with (Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew
    Lexicon).
  • Greek kollao to glue, to glue to, to glue
together, to cement, to fasten together
(Thayers) to join fast together, to glue,
    cement (Vines).
  • Marriage is not an experiment.
  • To stick together like glue emphasizes the
permanency of marriage until death do us part
    (Romans 72-3 1 Corinthians 739).

10
Cleave
  • GOD Himself joins a man and a woman together in
    marriage.
  • Therefore what God has joined together, let not
    man separate. (Matthew 196 NKJV)
  • Joined suzeugnumi to fasten to one yoke, yoke
together to join together, unite (Thayers).

11
Cleave
  • GOD Himself joins a man and a woman together in
    marriage.
  • Therefore what God has joined together, let not
    man separate. (Matthew 196 NKJV)
  • Joined suzeugnumi to fasten to one yoke, yoke
together to join together, unite (Thayers).
  • GOD does not join every man and woman that decide
    to marry.

12
GODS Gift of Marriage Given to a Man a Woman
  • If Never Before Married (Genesis 224
    Matthew 194-5)
  • If Mate Died
    (Romans 72-3 1 Corinthians 739)
  • If Divorce Mate for Sexual Immorality (Matthew
    199)

13
A Distinction Married Joined
  • Some folks get married, but GOD does not join
    them together.
  • So then it, while her husband lives, she marries
another man, she will be called an adulteress
but if her husband dies, she is free from that
law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has
married another man. (Romans 73 NKJV)
  • She is married, but she is an adulteress because
GOD did not join her to her husband.
  • John to Herod It is not lawful for you to have
    her. (Matthew 144 NKJV)

14
Who May Marry?
  • The single person who has never been married.
  • The widow or widower whose spouse has died.
  • The person who is divorced because of sexual
immorality on the part of his/her spouse.

15
One Flesh
  • A male and a female become one in mind, spirit,
goals, emotions, directions, feeling and will.
  • The complete unity of parts makes the whole.
  • A man and a woman leave their parents, cleave to
    one another, and become whole.
  • A mans children are pieces of himself, but his
    wife is himself (Matthew Henry).
  • The two persons, distinct in personality and in
operation, become one in plan, purpose and heart.

16
One Flesh
  • Man and woman consummate their commitments to one
another when they unite themselves as one
    flesh.
  • According to 1 Corinthians 616, one flesh
refers to sexual union of two bodies.
  • 1 Corinthians 616 discusses an immoral oneness
    with a harlot.
  • Hebrews 134 says the one flesh relationship in
marriage is honorable and the bed is undefiled.

17
One Flesh
  • GOD created man and woman with physical and
emotional desires for one another and demands a
commitment by each to fulfill the sexual needs of
    the other (1 Corinthians 71-5).
  • The uniting of the bodies of a husband and wife
as one flesh is a fitting expression of the
intimacy, boundless sharing, and total merging
that marriage demands of a male and female.
  • The sexual act is a blessing that comes as a
    result of marriage.

18
Civil Law
  • GOD demands that His people comply with all laws
enacted by civil powers (Romans 131-7 1 Peter
213-17), unless they contradict His law (Acts
    529).
  • This, of course, includes marriage laws.

19
Civil Law
  • Deuteronomy 24 tells us that a writing of
divorcement was necessary to end a marriage.
  • If some legal process is necessary to end the
marriage, there must be some similar process
    necessary to begin the marriage.
  • The marriage feast that Jesus attended (John
21-11) and spoke of in a parable (Matthew
221-14) illustrates that the point at which
people are married is not left to their own whims
or a mental state, rather it was when certain
    requirements were met.

20
GOD defines marriage.
