Old Model Versus New Model
  • Old
  • If you have been successfully delivering CTE
programs under the old model of Level I, II
III, you are in good shape.
  • If you have struggled for the 18 years it has
been in place, you need to implement it this year
to facilitate easy transition to new program
delivery criteria that will be mandatory for
funding in the 2007-2008 school year.
  • New
  • Career Exploration
  • Academics, communication, critical thinking,
    information technology, organizational systems,
    safety, health, leadership, teamwork, ethics,
employability and career development and a 4-6
    year career plan.
  • Career Preparation
  • Programs reflect labor market projections for
    Arizona, embedded academic standards, industry
    validated competencies, technical assessments,
    articulation/dual credit to postsecondary.
  • Career Management
  • Transition to higher ed, postsecondary
    occupational certificates degrees, complete
    on-the-job training, update technical skills.

    will contain

What else is new?Competencies Standards
  • OLD
  • Competency
  • Construct/concept derived from workplace task,
    knowledge, skill or ability requirement
  • NEW
  • Standard
  • Clear and concise description of knowledge, skill
or ability that students need to attain for
    workforce success
  • Why change? Even though definitions are very
similar, most state and national curricula use
standards. Better aligns Arizona with the rest
    of the nation. Universal language.
