Regional level According to allocation of
rights and duties between federal and regional
level the nine Bundesländer (provinces) have
the main responsibility in the social and health
field Therefore important role for
implementation and funding of (addiction)
prevention In order to face this responsibility
all nine provinces established regional addiction
prevention centres which fulfil a key role in the
field of prevention
4Addiction Prevention Centres
Specialised agencies in charge of initiating,
developing (implementation of pilot projects),
counselling and coaching of local and regional
programmes/activities plus provision of training
for multipliers and practitioners (teachers,
youth workers ...) Main task to raise the
professional standard and to ensure quality of
addiction prevention measures Austrian-wide
networking in the Working Group for Addiction
Prevention (ARGE Suchtvorbeugung), annual
conference, common projects
5NFP Networking
- Close co-operation with addiction prevention
centres - Intensive contacts during establishment of the
NFP and co-ordination of EDPW 1998 - Regular meeting once a year with the network
- Participation in the annual conference
- On-going contacts with individual centres
- Constant co-operation with ministry of health,
regular contacts with other ministries (e.g.
Federal Drug Forum)

- Official request for input to regional
addiction/drug co-ordinations and addiction
prevention centres every Spring ? they provide
written information - Consultation of annual reports of activities of
the addiction prevention centres - Consultation of websites of addiction
prevention centres - Request for more detailed information on
specific activities (pilot project, evaluation
etc.)

- MUSTAP sent out to addiction prevention centres
with request for provision of data/information - Structured Questionnaires
- Draft prepared either with group of experts or by
NFP based on available information - Draft sent to relevant experts (addiction
prevention centres, ministries ...) for feedback - Revised/consolidated consensus-document

- NFP contacts projects that meet criteria
(evaluation etc.) and proposes EDDRA entry to
them - Preparation of EDDRA questionnaire in close
co-operation with persons in charge of project - Presentation of all EDDRA projects in our
newsletter DrugNet Austria and in the National
Report incentive for projects - Training on filling in of EDDRA questionnaire
and planning of evaluation for practitioners in
order to promote evaluation and to improve
quality of EDDRA information
