Title: The mystery of the enolase pocket

1
The mystery of the enolase pocket
E. coli RNase E is a multifunctional protein
complex
  • Conclusions
  • Two of the four amino acid residues that
directly interact with the cognate RNase E
binding site are completely conserved amongst E.
coli, yeast, and Methanococcus enolases and one
is similar. Yeast is significantly different at
    the 4th residue position.
  • Amino acid alignments alone are insufficient and
can be misleading in analyzing the functional
significance of conserved residues in proteins.
