What are Binoculars?

• Binoculars - An optical device designed for
  simultaneous use by both eyes
• Consists of two small telescopes joined with a
  single focusing device
• They are used to magnify a distant object

  binoculars in millimeters (mm)
• Pupil Diameter Noon 2-4mm Evening 7mm
• Larger exit pupil helps for twilight viewing
• Field of View (F.O.V)
• Side-to-side measurement of viewing field _at_ 1000
  yards.
• Eye Relief
• Distance in millimeters (mm) a binocular can be
  held away from the eye _at_ full F.O.V.
• A large eye relief will reduce eyestrain and is
  ideal for a person that wears eyeglasses.
• Coatings
• Coated, Fully Coated, Multi-Coated, Fully
  Multi-Coated, and Phase Coated
• Fully Multi-coated will give better performance
  i.e. enhanced contrast light transmission
