• Internet can be described as a worldwide network
  of computers
• Allows the use of a personal computer to connect
  to other computers around the world.
• Computer that you use to connect is also called
  the client
• Computers that have information on them are also
  called servers

• Send and receive e-mail (many free e-mail
  services available, Yahoo, etc.)
• Beware of e-mail viruses!
• FTP file transfer protocol (transfer large
  files from one computer to another) Common use
  download software
• Telnet Allows one computer to connect to
  another. (text based, example library catalog)

• mailing lists(listservs) must subscribe
• to list. Receive e-mails periodically.
