- You would first recognize the number of oxygen
present in each formula. - Remember the less oxygen that is present the
name will end in ite, the more oxygen that is
present the name will end in ate. - If there is only 1 oxygen, then hypo- goes in
front of the name. If there are 4 oxygens, then
per- goes in front of the name.
So BrO- hypobromite, BrO2- bromite,
BrO3- bromate and BrO4- perbromate.
