10Student Profile - PEYS
- mature student aged 38, divorced with 2 children
- left school at 16 went straight into work with
the steel industry - 9 years of working
- taught taekwndo in spare time, got very good
feedback from parents with regard to his
coaching. Trigger to investigate going back to
college as a route into PE teaching - told 'you will never get into SHU to do a
teaching course as you are too old' - persevered and got into RCAT at Rotherham,
- Access course Maths GCSE at evening class
- voluntary work within a school
- top marks in the Access course and accepted onto
the PEYS degree in 2005 - he has just been accepted onto the PGCE 2008-09
- his dream to be a PE teacher will finally be
recognised

- straight from College to University
- GCSE and GNVQ in Sport and Leisure
- BTEC obtained a DDM
- applied to Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester Met.
for teaching and to SHU for PEYS - didint get on her 1st choice and decided to move
away from teaching to sport development - 2007 enrolled at SHU on SDC
- triggers to stay attend SHU were staying close to
home, her friends and the fact that she had a
good job

- Main disciplines sport and exercise
physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology and
nutrition Applied and practical approach - BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Performance Coaching
- As (1) but with slightly less 'Science' this is
replaced with coaching modules - Links science to coaching individual and team
performances - BSc (Hons) Physical Activity, Health and Exercise
Science - As (1) but slightly less 'Science' - explores the
link between physical activity and health and
addresses the issue of physical activity as part
of a healthy lifestyle
