2Overview
- MIT TechTV is a YouTube-like application for
the MIT Community - MIT TechTV provides valuable outreach
capabilities by providing a video hosting
platform for the MIT Community (such as MITES,
MIT Insite, STEM) to send their messages abroad
(video blogs, science and technology related
videos to excite the minds of the worlds youth). - Anyone with an MIT email account can sign-up and
upload content to the site - Content is available to the world for viewing and
commenting - Each account automatically becomes a collection
which contains all uploads from that account - Each collection can add profile information for
a more personalized/informative presence - Uploaded videos are automatically trans-coded to
Flash video format (.flv) for optimized usability - Original uploaded video format is kept and able
to be viewed as well - Videos can be found by genre, other selectors, or
they can be keyword searched

11Quotes from users posting on
"TechTV has done a wonderful job of enhancing the
MIT experience by using video to blur the line
between personal and shared experience, and
creating a community based on personal narrative
delivered in real time. Ben Jones -
Associate Director of Admissions and Director of
Communications for the MIT Office of Admissions
"Simple, quick and effective the MIT TechTV team
brought our event from MIT podium to the world
painlessly. Robert G. Urban - Executive
Director, Koch Institute
"TechTV has enabled the MIT Libraries to give our
video content broader exposure within the MIT
Community. We appreciate the ability to have
YouTube-like features in a tool that is
customized for MIT users. The TechTV staff has
been very responsive to questions and issues we
have had. Darcy Duke -
Engineering Librarian for Technology-Based
Services
MIT World will publish the two keynotes from
the Energy Conference, but it's really TechTV -
MIT's version of YouTube - that is the future of
video at MIT, and all the conference's videos
will be there by the end of the week. It's the
best thing to happen at MIT since charm school,
and serves pretty much the same purpose - making
communication easy. Ed Carlevale -
Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering
TechTV has a better interface than YouTube and
has given me a targeted place to put my tech
videos. It makes cross-posting very simple and
the statistics tracking is great. (Just broke
150,000 Total views today.) Very glad to continue
posting. Shane Colton -
Mechanical Engineering - School of Engineering
MIT TechTV has proved a great resource for
hosting, promoting and distributing MIT Sloan
videos. It is easy to upload and manage our
videos, and the viewership statistics help us
gauge which videos are effective. Because it
offers a collection of MIT-wide videos, MIT
TechTV has also extended our reach to a much
broader population of viewers. We are very much
satisfied and see MIT TechTV as central to our
ever-increasing video-hosting, promotion and
distribution needs. Scott Rolph -
Associate Director of Communication - Sloan
School of Management

I have been a mentor for Team 126 - Gael Force
since 2000. This video sums up all that I have
tried to convey to my students. This is the way
the world should work and in some cases, does
work. Thank you for strengthening my commitment
