What we will learn today
  • We will learn about what to do if you ever have a
    fire in your school or in another public
    building, like a library, movie theater, mall or
    restaurant.

  • We should know two ways out of every room in our
    home in case of a fire

If you have a fire in your school, you should
  • Stop what you are doing
  • Listen for instructions from your teacher
  • Go quickly, carefully and quietly to your meeting
    place
  • DO NOT run or push and listen carefully to what
    your teacher tells you
  • NEVER hide in a closet or under your teachers desk

  • Pulling a fire alarm is not a joke!
  • It is against the law if there is no fire
  • You can be expelled from school
  • You can cause injury to other students, teachers
    or fire fighters

  • Remember to look for exit signs in other buildings
  • restaurants
  • theaters
  • malls
  • libraries

  • When you stay in a hotel
  • Look for exit routes on the back of the door
  • Locate marked exits on your floor
  • some exits may not be directly outside - but will
    lead you to outside exits
  • Look for exit signs above the doors and at floor
    level (in case you are crawling low under the
    smoke)
  • Count doors between your room and nearest exit

  • When you stay in a hotel
  • If there is no smoke on your floor, go to the
    nearest exit
  • feel doors for heat before opening on any floor
  • Never use the elevator in a fire emergency -
    always use the stairs

  • If a fire does happen in your school or another
    building you are in
  • Stay calm
  • Look for the nearest exit
  • Crawl low under the smoke
  • Feel doors before opening them
  • Once outside - stay outside
