HELLIS Network
  • HELLIS Network was founded by the WHO Regional
    Office for South-East Asia Region in 1980.
  • The objective of HELLIS Network is To provide
    better information services to healthcare
    professionals by sharing resources among health
    science libraries in the region.
  • Within the past two and a half decades, HELLIS
    has undergone several changes at the strategic
    level although the primary objective of HELLIS
    remains the same.
  • Today, HELLIS is composed of over 350 network
    member libraries, spanning across 11 member
    states in the WHO South-East Asia Region.
  • The future of HELLIS seems promising as HELLIS
    expands to be the WHO SEARO/WPRO Bi-regional
    Information Network covering all of Asia.

HELLIS Network
  • During its lifetime, HELLIS has experienced two
    IT Revolutions The computer revolution in 1980s
    and the Internet and Web Revolution in 1990s.
  • Taking advantage of the IT revolution, HELLIS
    Network concentrates in building sustainable
    national capacities in management and
    dissemination of knowledge assets in member
    states.
  • By the end of 1980s, major HELLIS Network
    libraries have been equipped with technical
    know-how, physical resources and knowledge
    assets, ready to enter the digital information
    age.
  • During mid 1990s, major HELLIS Network libraries
    started disseminating their knowledge assets
    reaching out directly to users through Web
    technology.
  • HELLIS spent several years in establishing
    international information standards among network
    libraries and in 2003, HELLIS information portal,
    www.hellis.org was launched by integrating
    knowledge assets from its network member
    libraries.

  • HELLIS.ORG is a translation of HELLIS Network
    objectives into action.
  • HELLIS.ORG performs knowledge sharing and
    knowledge dissemination functions.
  • Knowledge sharing as Data Provider and Service
    Provider.
  • Offline meta data sharing.
  • Online metadata harvesting and repackaging.
  • Online real-time access to knowledge resources.
  • Knowledge dissemination as an Information Portal.
  • Identification, harvesting, integration,
    clustering and dissemination.
  • From HELLIS to HELLIS Asia-Pacific Network.
  • Bi-regional cooperation between WHO SEA and WHO
    WP Regions.
  • HELLIS Asia-Pacific will bring together
    knowledge assets from nearly all of Asia.
  • HELLIS Asia-Pacific will become an important
    component of WHO GHL.

HELLIS Network
  • Since HELLIS is part of the WHO Family,
    knowledge assets of the HELLIS Network is part of
    the Global WHO assets.
  • HELLIS welcomes sharing its assets with
    interested parties both within and outside the
    WHO.
  • As medical librarians, we all have the
    responsibility to satisfy our users information
    needs and promote global health by providing
    premium information services to policy makers,
    administrators, health care workers, scientists
    and the general public.
  • When it comes to knowledge sharing and
    dissemination, please consider HELLIS Network as
    your partner.
