MOTTO The future of information and
documentation institutions will be based on
written words and electronic words, on hypertext
and hypermedia, on lecture rooms and computer
rooms, on direct access of users to electronic
information or on the librarians capacity to
become an information mediator.

Major Changes of the New Millennium -changes
from printed to electronic information -diversifi
cation of the information support (CD-ROM,
electronic files and soon on) -improving the
retrieval methods -improving the communication
channels (satellite, optical fiber,
wireless) -diversification of information
supply -strong imrpovement of the
e-content. Result Information becomes one of
the Information Society vectors, besides the
technological and functional vectors.

Limits - Restrictive access and costs of
population in providing personal computers and
Internet - Opposition to IT tools. Results -di
gital divide between the urban and the rural
population -lack of skills in IT. Needs To
create structures in order to remove these
limits.

on realization, implementation and evaluation
impact of an interlibrary informatic network in
educational and information-documentation
activities BIBLIONET ( coordinator of the
project University of Pitesti) The project has
as purpose the projection, realization and
analysis of an integrated informatic system for
libraries connecting into a network via INTERNET
and its implementation to the beneficiary
Partners (SSI Pitesti, Societatea de Cercetari
Nucleare Pitesti, Primaria Campulung-Pitesti,
Muzeul Judetean Arges). It will be also realizing
a study on social impact of the informatization
of information-documentation activities in
libraries.

users will be from all categories of people,
regardless of their Knowledge level. - this
information system will benefit public and
private educational institutions, research
centers, any other interested institution. The
use of this system will permit remote access
to academic information at all times (24
hours/365 days) from every access terminal (web
browser).

distributed network for bibliographical and
documentation information ( coordinator of the
project SC IME Romania SRL) - main goal to
implement a distributed network for
bibliographical and documentation information in
Pitesti district. - main characteristic of a
distributed network is the simultaneous access to
all databases connected using a multicasting
search. This characteristic defines the
distributed network as a virtual library. - the
information system is also provided to manage
fulltext, e-books, audio-video and multimedia
information.

CONCLUSION New Vision of Library To provide
equal access gateways To connect people in
undeserved urban and rural areas to information
resources. New definition of Library in
Information Society the peoples university,
capable to provide training, equipment and
information to everybody. Thus, the e-library
becomes a civic integrator acting like an
extension of the traditional public library, and
along with other local institutions constitutes
the basis of civic life.
