• Father was a king
• Surpassing beauty
• Men everyone journeyed to gaze upon her wonder
  and adoration

Story of Venus Psyche

• Venus was very jealous of psyches beauty, and
  the men who gazed upon her
  
• Venus asked cupid to make psyche fall in love
  with a horrible wretch
  
• Psyche did not fall in love, no body fell in love
  with herSAD!

• Apollo said that P must be set on the summit of
  rocky hill and left alone
  
• There she was destined to find a husband, a
  fearful winged serpent stronger than the gods
  themselves

• On the hilltop while P was waiting, a soft
  breathe of air came through and she felt it lift
  upon her and floated away
  
• Laid her down upon a grassy meadow full of flowers

• She fell asleep and woke beside a bright river
• On river bank was a mansion
• mansion- built for gods with pillars of gold and
  walls of silver
  
• In explainable way felt sure with the coming of
  the night her husband would be with her

• ANDso it happened
• She only heard his voice and never saw him, but
  by soft murmuring in her ear she knew he was no
  monster

• Sisters came to visit
• Jealous of mansion
• Thought husband was a serpent
• P got a lamp and a knife and was going to see
  what her husband looked like at night

• Oil from lamp spilled on husband
• He woke up
• Immediately after he fledshe rushed out after
  him
  
• P swore that she would spend the rest of her life
  looking for her husband

• Ps husband went to go and get wound fixed
• Venus found out that he had chose P
• V did not help with wound
• V got upset with Psyche and P did not want Venus
  to become enemy
  
• Therefore P offered herself as a servant to V

• V first order was for P to separate a huge pile
  of seeds
  
• V was upset with P and wanted to starve her
• P had to go to the river and retrieve shining
  wool for V

• Heard voice from green reed telling her not to
  drown herself and to come back during evening and
  there would be plenty of gold wool hanging from
  briars.
• V told her to go to river of Styx
• Which only a winged creature could reach
• she was to fill a flask with the water

• Her savior this time was an eagle
• Seized the flask with his beak and brought it
  back filled with black water
  
• V was not done
• She told P to bring a box to the underworld and
  fill it with Proserpines beauty
  
• A tower on the way speaks to her and tells how to
  easily complete the task

• Pysche peeks into the box
• The box looks emptybut a deep sleep comes over
  her
  
• Cupid rushes to P and persuades zeus to make her
  an immortal
  
• C and P become Happily Married
• This makes Venus FINALLY accept her
