What is WIRED?
  • In November 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor
    Employment Training Administration announced a
    competition to assist regions in developing
    innovative approaches to economic and workforce
    transformation.
  • Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic
    Development (WIRED) integrates economic and
    workforce development activities, demonstrating
    that talent development can drive economic
    transformation in regions across the U.S.
  • Brings together state, local and federal
    entities academic institutions (including K-12,
    community colleges and universities) business
    and industry, and other partners to address the
    challenges associated with building a globally
    competitive and prepared workforce.

What is SEVA-PORT?
  • The Southeastern Virginia Partnership for
    Regional Transformation seeks to integrate,
    enhance and build linkages between the emerging
    industry of Modeling and Simulation (MS) and the
    expanding Port-related industries of
    Transportation, Warehousing and Distribution
    (TWD).

  • Create a comprehensive MS senior-level
    curriculum and disseminate to regional public
    school system
  • Teacher training opportunities equip
    instructors with curriculum and tools to educate
    students in MS fields
  • Technology Summer Camps in cooperation with
    TCC, TNCC and NSU. 4 week session for students
    ages 16-18 that exposes students to Simulation
    Gaming, Computer Aided Design, Webpage Design,
    and Programming Networking

  • Curriculum development at TCC, TNCC, PDCCC, JTCC,
    SCC. Develop associates degree and certificate
    programs in MS and Logistics, and expand Truck
    Driving programs

    state-of-the-art software and hardware
  • Recruitment Outreach aimed at encouraging
    students and others to pursue careers in MS and
    TWD industries

    with comprehensive assessments and information on
    MS and TWD programs
  • Encourage enrollment in certificate and degree
    programs related to TWD MS career fields

    SEVA-PORT related programs

  • Convene TWD and MS Industries Panel
  • Collaborate with the Hampton Roads Research
    Partnership to leverage EDA grants
  • Best Practices Assessment for TWD industries,
    integrate MS technologies into TWD, and
    facilitate employee access to training in these
    new technologies

  • Entrepreneurship Small Business Development
  • Outreach and identification of entrepreneurs and
    new business in the MS and TWD industries
  • Provide business management counseling, training
    programs and seminars, marketing and public
    relations assistance

WIREDGROW, INTEGRATE TRANSFORM
  • A continuum of initiatives to GROW Modeling and
    Simulation technologies, INTEGRATE these
    technologies into TWD industries in response to
    the needs of the Port expansion, and TRANSFORM
    the regional economy.
