3Definition of cataloging
- Processes involved in constructing a catalog
describing documents so as to identify and
characterize them providing entry points
peculiar to the document, e.g., author headings
or title headings providing for subject and
format information. Sometimes used to include the
process of classification.

- Create 3 x 5 cards with a hole in the bottom

- Comprehensive integrated computer-
- based system that provides control
- over all major library functions
- including traditional processes such
- as cataloging, etc., statistics provision
- and more recently developed services
- such as access to an organizations PC
- network remote databases and the
- web.
7What we do now (Our Mission)
- The Cataloging Department supports the teaching,
research, and service missions of Frazar Memorial
Library and the University by providing
bibliographic access to the collections housed in
the main stacks, Reference, Curriculum Materials
Center, Farrar Hall, Government Documents,
Special Collections and Archives, and the
Performing Arts Library, Shearman Fine Arts Hall.

- To accomplish this goal, the Department strives
to
- Create, organize and maintain accurate and
comprehensive bibliographic data for all the
material in the Library's collections. - Follow recognized national and international
standards for cataloging. - Remain current in bibliographic and technological
advances.

- Insure maintenance of quality through continuing
education and training. - Insure efficiency by examining existing
procedures and possessing a willingness to
institute new procedures and technology when
