Title: Monitoring software, data archiving, data systems architectures and processing

1
Monitoring software, data archiving, data systems
architectures and processing
  • AFREF Technical Workshop
  • 10-13 July 2006
  • UCT
  • Ludwig Combrinck

2
Monitoring Software
  • A variety of tools for GPS data handling are
    available at www.unavco.org/facility/software/soft
    ware.html
  • Includes TEQC, a UNAVCO-developed, GPS data
toolkit that provides for translation of GPS raw
data formats to RINEX and quality checking, among
    other functions.
  • Contact Lou Estey (estey_at_unavco.org) for
    assistance
  • with GPS software tools.

3
Many examples of data archive centres (SOPAC,
CMONOC, CDDIS etc)
4
Many initiatives exist
  • UNAVCO is developing a seamless archive for the
GPS Geodesy/Geophysics community, called the GPS
    Seamless Archive Center (GSAC).
  • SOPAC is the leader in this development.
  • GSAC is a collection of GPS data archives and
their operating agencies that agree to exchange
information about their individual data holdings
in order that users need not contact each archive
    separately to locate desired information.

In terms of AFREF
  • Do we need AFREF regional data centres?
  • A Global Data Centre (CDDIS mirror ?)
  • Or just a Regional Data Centre?
  • Where? How many?
  • Real-time data transmission? (TEC, IWV etc)
  • Standards for log files, meta files etc.
  • Local network data (stations that are not IGS)
  • Campaign survey data
  • Ties between techniques, tide gauges etc.

AFREF Data Centre
  • Act as IGS regional data centre for Africa
  • Comply with A proposed new IGS data flow model
    (IGS workshop 2006) A. Moore, C. Bruyninx, C.
    Noll, M. Scharber
  • Interface and be compatible with existing
    structures as far as possible
  • Regional data centers gather data from various
  • operational data centers and maintain an archive
    for users
  • interested in stations of a particular region.
    These data
  • centers forward data from designated global sites
    to the
  • global data centers within at most 24 hours of
    receipt.
  • IGS regional data centers have been established
    in several
  • areas, including Europe and Australia. (C Noll )

14
Proposal
  • HartRAO to set up AFREF Data Centre combined
with existing IGS Regional Data Centre (will also
include subsets of VLBI and SLR data)
  • Incorporating mirrors of IAG Services websites
    (IVS, ILRS, IGS, DORIS)
  • Additional Operational Centres throughout
    Africa
  • Additional Operational Data Centres throughout
