Information/article on cereals

  • Types of cereals
  • Wheat - Wheat is usually ground to flour which
is used to produce a wide range of products. The
type of flour produced differs according to the
    rate of extraction.
  • Maize - Maize may be processed to make many
different ingredients and food products. It may
be milled in a similar process to wheat. Its germ
is rich in oil, which is refined to produce corn
    oil.
  • Barley - Barley is mainly sold as pearl barley,
which is the whole grain with its husk removed
  • Oats Oats are rolled rather than crushed
during processing. Coarse, medium and fine grades
    of oatmeal are available.

5
  • Rice - Brown rice has its outer husk removed, and
white rice is milled and polished further to
remove the bran and germ. There are many
different types of rice, categorised by size,
shape and the region where they are grown. Rice
can be ground to make flour.
  • Rye - Rye contains little gluten, so produces
breads with low volume and a dense texture

Information on one-dish meals
One of the best ways to get dinner on the table
in a hurry is to make a one dish meal - like one
of Minnesota's famous hot dishes. These recipes
combine grains or legumes, vegetables or fruit,
and perhaps some meat all in one, so with just a
glass of milk you have dinner.
One dish meals offer a positive solution to the
time crunch problem in our fast-paced lifestyles.
It's a concept we can build a system around to
ensure the best use of our time and ingredients
in the preparation of the family meal. Formerly
the casserole, one dish meals have been updated
to meet the needs of today's hectic time
schedules. One dish options range from skillet
stir-fries to the traditional baking dish or
Dutch oven. Add a fresh salad and you have
created your own super simple gourmet meal.
Develop a system for quick meal preparation, and
you may find it easier to create a meal at home
than to settle for fast food lane fare. Fast food
is generally less than satisfying, costly and
poor in nutrition. Working with simple
ingredients to meet the demands of your family's
discerning tastes can be very satisfying.
Consider the variations in the traditional
favorites of pizza, chicken and pork chops and
you will be certain to please most anyone.

Decision making

Method
  • Wash the Heavenly Rice, then stir in the rest of
the ingredients except for the garnishes. Cook
the mixture in a rice-cooker as you normally
    would for rice.
  • Garnish the cooked rice with the shallots and
spring onion. Drizzle the dark soy sauce over and
    serve

Why i choose this dish..
I chose this dish, claypot rice, for my test is
because it is nutritious and only take about 20
minutes , which is just enough for the time we
are allowed to cook.
