Classroom Procedures
  • Expectations

2
FOLLOW the FIVE Ps of SUCCESS! Be Positive! Be
Prompt! Be Prepared! Be Polite! Be Patient!
3
  • what Do I Bring to Class Everyday?
  • You will need to bring the following supplies to
    class each day
  • Agenda
  • Science Textbook Workbook
  • Binder with paper
  • Red, Blue, or Black Pens
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or Map Pencils

These items can fit in your zipper bag.

THIS SCIENCE CLASS INVOLVES
Many LABS PROJECTS! Each table works as a
team and each person will have a job to help make
things easier for everyone. The 4 jobs are 1.)
Materials Coordinator- helps teacher get
materials for labs and also collects the tables
assignments. 2.) Noise Control- helps stop or
keep noise levels down when teacher is giving
instructions. 3.) Clean-Up Coordinator- helps
make sure everyone at the table works together to
clean up the lab for the next class. 4.)
Speaker- this person will speak for the whole
table when doing projects or explaining
observations the table has made during a lab.
5
AGENDAS A students agenda has many functions.
It will act as a hall pass, it can be a place for
phone numbers, schedules, and most importantly,
help keep track of what is going on in each
class. Copying the agenda daily will result in
good Agenda Journal Test grades. The agenda and
journal will be posted on my website. Parents
and students may use this to keep track of what
is going on in class daily. This will be most
helpful for those who are absent.
6
The journal is a black and white composition
notebook. It will stay in the room
always. NEVER take journal home or out of the
room. .
JOURNAL
The journal is where students do their daily
exercises and labs. Journal is strictly graded
for participation. Answers in journal are never
considered wrong. The only time journal hurts a
students grade is when they dont do it or
complete it
Every 6 weeks, students will be tested on the
Agenda Journal. Students will be allowed to
use the agenda and journal during the test. It
is important to stay organized and remember
supplies!
Journal can be a students BEST FRIEND or WORST
NIGHTMARE. Make it a best friend and do it.
7
All assignments must be turned in on TIME.

Late work is penalized by 30 points. Assignments
are considered late when not turned in on the due
date, usually at the beginning of the class
period. Students who fail to turn in the work
after a week will get a zero.
When absent, students must ask the teacher for
make up work. The teachers webpage is also
available to see whats been missed. It will be
the students responsibility to remember to do
this.
If a student is absent, they are responsible for
maintaining the amount of days allowed to get
their make up work in on time. In most cases, if
a student is absent, they do have make up work.
Homework and classwork are worth 35.
Tests and projects are
worth 35.
Labs are worth 30.

HOMEWORK HOMEWORK PASSES
This year, students will have a textbook, and
have a science class that focuses on exploration
through labs and group projects. Students will
be assigned one homework assignment a week. It
is the same assignment and will continue
throughout the year. This assignment is called a
Current Event and is due every Friday. Homework
passes allow a person to skip this assignment, or
any other homework that is given occasionally, by
attaching it to their paper with their name. It
will count as an exempt grade in the grade
book. It is NOT a free 100. Homework passes
can be won in my weekly raffle drawings. Students
can obtain them when they have a 90 or above and
no zeros each progress report and report card
grading cycle.
9
DRAWING for PRIZES- Weekly raffle drawings which
reward students with good behavior and
organization skills.
In the back of the classroom, there are five
smiley face cans with period numbers labeled on
them. Each class has their own can. Students
who are good examples and follow class
procedures, will receive a raffle ticket. Every
student needs to write his or her name on the
back of the raffle ticket in pen. When class is
over, students place the ticket in the
appropriate can. Every Friday, I will draw five
names from the can. These five people can win a
variety of prizes. Some prizes are academic
while others are not. Sometimes, when the
class does something really good or special, I
draw additional names from the can.
10
Academic Prizes
Non-Academic Prizes
  • Hold Animals for 1 Week
  • 2 Prizes from Candy Bag
  • 3 Prizes from Candy Bag
  • 1 Prize from Toy Bag
  • Free Soda
  • Multi- Pass
  • Trade Prizes
  • Homework Pass
  • Super Homework Pass
  • Agenda Pass
  • Drop Lowest Daily Grade
  • Drop Lowest Test Grade
  • 5 Bonus Points on a Test
  • 3 Bonus Points on Average

Students always look forward to Friday, because
it is their chance to win a prize!
11
DETENTIONS There are several different kinds of
detentions students can receive 1.) Lunch
Detention- (have lunch in a cubicle by
themselves. Lateness to a lunch detention
can result in getting another detention.) 2.)
Tardy Detention- (usually involves dictionary
work after school) 3.) Behavior Detention-
(results in writing an essay after
school.) Detentions are issued once the ticket
system has been enforced. Most detentions will
be held after school between 335 and 405.
12
Behavior policy
After school detentions are 30 minutes when the
detention slip is signed by parents and returned
to me. If not signed, parents will receive a
phone call and students will be given an extra 10
minutes to their detention that day. If the
first detention is skipped, the detention will be
rewritten and doubled to an hour. (example 335
to 435) If the second detention is skipped,
then students will be referred to the office for
a Thursday night detention or ISSC. While in
detention, students are expected to do dictionary
work or a written essay depending on the severity
of their behavior. If I dont approve of their
work, they must redo it, staying longer until it
is done correctly.
13
DISCIPLINE I believe in the 3 strikes and
youre out rule. Students will get 2 verbal
warnings and if the behavior is not corrected, it
will result in a detention or loss of a ticket.
NOTE See webpage for ticket
system information. However, depending on the
behavior, students may receive other forms of
punishment such as 1.) Copying from the
dictionary during a lab. 2.) Sitting out in the
hall. 3.) Missing out on all labs completely
and doing alternate assignments. 4.)
And, in extreme cases, going to the office or
getting sent directly to ISSC.
14
TARDINESS Tardiness occurs when a student is not
in their seat when the door closes. A warning
will always be given before the door shuts. This
will give anyone who is up time to sit
down. Students must have all supplies with them
at this time. Failure to do so, will result in
the ticket system being enforced. This includes
sharpening pencils, getting journals,
etc. Students are given 5 minutes to get to
Science. Students must take
care of business, bathroom,
lockers, etc. before entering class.
15
