  • ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally
Americans to fight the emergency of global AIDS
    and extreme poverty.

Were not asking for your money were asking
for Your Voice.
3
A history of ONE

4
What is extreme poverty?
  • More than ONE billion people around the world
live on less than 1 a day -- 300 million live in
    Africa.
  • More than ONE billion people do not have access
    to clean water.
  • Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a preventable
    disease.

5
The Emergency AIDS
  • AIDS is currently the fourth leading cause of
death worldwide more than 25 million people
    have died since 1981.
  • In 2006, there were 24.5 million people in
sub-Saharan Africa living with HIV, including 2
million children under the age of 15. Last year
alone, there were 4.3 million new infections and
3 million people died because of AIDS related
    illness
  • 18 million children have lost one or both parents
to AIDS worldwide, 12 million of them live in
    sub-Saharan Africa
  • Only 1 in 5 people in immediate need of treatment
    worldwide receive it

6
How does the ONE Campaign help the worlds
poorest people?
7
The ONE Campaign believes
  • that the U.S. enacting a comprehensive package
that includes fair trade, debt cancellation,
    fighting corruption, and directing additional
resources for basic needs such as education,
health, clean water, food, shelter, and care for
orphans, would transform the futures and hopes of
an entire generation in the poorest countries.
  • Therefore, the ONE Campaign supports efforts
rooted in building strong, widespread support for
bold, new initiatives to meet the Millennium
    Development Goals.

8
What are the Millennium Development Goals?
9
What is the U.S already doing to help?
  • Thanks to U.S. support, 1.2 million people with
    HIV/AIDS are receiving lifesaving anti-retroviral
treatment through combined efforts of the
Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief
(PEPFAR) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS TB and
    Malaria.
  • The U.S. is a lead donor to the Global Fund to
Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. In just 5 years
theyve had these impressive global results
  • Bed-nets to 18 million families, to help
    prevent malaria.
