Title: Report from the HSG3 HWW VBF Hinv

1
Report from the HSG3(H?WWVBF H?inv)
  • B.Mellado on behalf of the Subgroup
  • Many thanks to T.Dai, J.Tanaka, M.Schram,
    I.Tsukerman, E.Feng, M.A. Pleier, C.Schmitt,
  • M.Durhseen, B.Quayle, etc..
  • Higgs WG Meeting, PP Workshop 07/11/08

2
Outline
  • Groups Organization
  • Tentative list of activities for next 6 months
  • Connection with Performance, SM/top groups
  • Connection with the EW subgroup
  • Kick-off activities
  • Performance DPD discussion
  • MC tasks
  • Validation strategy
  • Outlook

3
Groups Organization
  • The subgroup is very active. So far 12 institutes
    with 50 participants.
  • Most of interest clustered around the di-leptonic
    decay H?WW?ll (le,µ)
  • Interest has been expressed for the H?WW?l?qq
    (le,µ) and VBF H?inv analyses

4
Activities for Next 6 Months
  • This is a tentative and non-exhaustive
  • Finalize the same flavor analysis (see Tastuya's
and Ruslans talks at the HWG)
  • Understand the contribution from noise to MET
  • Data with random triggers is already available
  • Understand what is the potential impact (if any)
    of comics in our analysis
  • VBF H?inv may be affected
  • Develop data-driven methods to extract tt,QCD
  • Study the potential of same sign leptons to
    normalize background
  • 10 TeV samples, make full use of ATLFAST-II
  • NNLO cross-sections, EW corrections
  • Etc

5
Connection with Performance, SM/Top Groups
  • Clear ideas of and strong involvement of
institutes in Performance and SM/Top groups

6
Connection with the EW Subgroup
  • Several institutes involved in s(WW)
  • Propose a joint meeting to decide on
  • Overview common areas of work in the performance
groups. Concretize a set of common object
    definitions
  • Common tools and procedures for the extraction of
common backgrounds, in particular ZW, ttbar,
    Wjets and QCD
  • Common D3PD for s(WW) and H?WW?ll.
  • Finalize definition of common MC samples,
    validation and DQM procedures.
  • A.O.B.
  • Suggest Jan 14th to allow for time for prep.

7
Perf. DPD Discussion
  • Twiki page for information and updates
  • https//twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewauth/AtlasProt
    ected/HSG3PerfDPDSummary
  • Highlighted in red the Perf. DPDs which content
is being evaluated in our subgroup

8
Perf. DPD Discussion (cont)
  • Looked at the contents of the Performance DPDs
and found that the DPD SINGLEMU and DPD SINGLEEL
appear to have sufficient and similar information
  • DPD LARGEMET didnt have CaloCell information.
    Now it does
  • Well look into the re-processing shortly
  • In addition, Ilyas suggested to look at DPD
    MINBIAS and DPD JET
  • Eric indicates that pre-scale/cuts are too loose.
DPD jet may not be useful for us
  • For VBF Invisible Higgs the Perf. DPDs do not
    look suitable.

9
MC Tasks
  • Work very closely with J.Tanaka and
  • Write, maintain, validate job options
  • Generate 4-vector files for central and local
    production.
  • Validate interfaces and develop new ones.
  • Joboptions now available for ggH (Pythia) and VBF
    (Herwig) signal mass scans (110-600)
  • https//twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/AtlasProtecte
    d/HiggsWGHSG3Dataset
  • Working on MC_at_NLO/Sherpa
  • Dealing with backgrounds
  • Coordinating with the EW subgroup
  • Validated H?WW?l?l? spin correlation in Herwig

10
Spin Correlations in Herwig
  • Spin correlation in is introduced into ATHENA by
Jon Butterworth with correction patch from Herwig
author to CV, CVS tags Herwig_i-00-03-09,
    Charybdis_i-00-00-09

Validation Strategy
  • Automatic validation at the generator,
    reconstruction levels and data
  • There are already nice frameworks available
    within ATLAS for validating samples
  • DCube for software validation/testing
  • DQMF for Data Quality monitoring
  • Run over pool based data format (AOD, DPD) for
    increased ?exibility
  • Create summary webpage with plots for each
sample. All code in dedicated athena package
    (of?cial CVS)
  • Making proposal for validation plots

12
Twiki for Validation Activities
Under development
13
Outlook
  • Active, with 12 institutes and 50 participants
  • Most of interest clustered around the di-leptonic
    decay H?WW?ll (le,µ)
  • Interest has been expressed for the H?WW?l?qq
    (le,µ) and VBF H?inv analyses
  • Clear ideas of and strong involvement of
institutes in Performance and SM/Top groups
  • Definition of job options well underway.
    Validated H?WW?l?l? in Herwig
  • Gave first feedback on Performance DPD
  • Defined strategy for automated validation of MC
    and data
