27The Future
28Parking Solutions
- Build additional garages to replace surface
parking lost to construction - Develop additional off-campus park and ride lots
as a less expensive alternative - Work with City to improve Sun Tran bus system as
it relates to campus - Develop incentives to reduce the number of single
occupancy vehicles on campus
29Sustainability Efforts
30Sustainability Efforts
- Our alternative transportation programs directly
impact improvements in air quality and traffic
congestion in the campus and the surrounding
region - 44 of trips to the UA campus are made by
alternative means
31Sustainability Efforts
- PTS now operates its entire fleet of seventeen
Cat Tran shuttles entirely on bio-diesel fuel - By using this fuel, they reduce carbon dioxide
and hydrocarbon emissions by up to 50 compared
to traditional petroleum diesel.
32Sustainability Efforts
- PTS received an A, according to the new College
Sustainability Report Card 2008 for such
sustainability programs as Carpool, Vanpool, Sun
Tran U-Pass, Bicycling, Park Ride lots,
Disability Cart Service, Ride Share, Cat Tran and
Commuter Parking Assistance.
33Sustainability Efforts
- Last year, the University of Arizona community
has saved 16.8 million automobile miles to campus
through all of the PTS alternative transportation
programs combined - This was a net reduction of 16.9 million pounds
of greenhouse gases emitted into our planets
atmosphere.
34Sustainability Efforts
- PTS has won the Best Workplaces for Commuters
award each year since 2003 - This EPA program is specifically designed to
reduce transportation-related greenhouse gases
and fuel consumption by countering growth in
vehicle travel.
