Whats an Honored Citizen?
  • If you are an Honored Citizen,you qualify for
    a reduced TriMetfare. Honored Citizens are
  • Age 65 or older
  • OR
  • Living with a disability

Honored Citizen Eligibility
  • You must have proof that you are eligible for the
    Honored Citizen reduced fare when you board a
    TriMet vehicle. Examples of qualifying ID
  • A drivers license or state ID card
  • A valid ID that shows your age
  • A Medicare card
  • A TriMet Honored Citizen card
  • Note You do NOT need to show ID to purchase
    Honored Citizen fares, so your family or friends
    can buy tickets or passes for you at neighborhood
    ticket outlets.

Tickets transfer receipts
  • A validated ticket or transfer receipt allows you
    a minimum of 1 hour and 45 minutes to board any
    bus, MAX or Streetcar. Keep your ticket or
    transfer until you complete your trip.

Monthly passes
  • A TriMet monthly pass is a good value if you
    ride often. As an added bonus, you never need to
    worry about having exact change for the bus or
    having enough time to buy your MAX ticket before
    the train comes. Monthly passes are valid on
    all TriMet buses, MAX trains and the Portland
    Streetcar during the entire month shown on the
    front.

TriMet Honored Citizen card
  • Some people find that it is more convenient to
    carry a TriMet Honored Citizen card as proof that
    they are eligible for the Honored Citizen fare.
  • You can apply for anHonored Citizen card
    bycalling 503-962-2455,MondayFriday from830
    a.m. to 530 p.m.

Honored Citizen A card
  • If you travel with a personal attendant or
    caregiver, you can apply for an Honored Citizen
    A card. This card shows that you are eligible
    for Honored Citizen fares and lets your attendant
    ride free while he orshe is assisting you.
  • A licensed physician or healthor social service
    professionalmust complete the application.

Honored Citizen ? card
  • The Honored Citizen ? card is issued to
    individuals who have their disability verified by
    a mental health agency. It helps bus operators be
    more sensitive to rider needs by making them
    aware that the passengerhas a mental disability.

Boarding the bus
  • Place your cash or unvalidatedticket in the
    farebox and theoperator will give you a
    transferreceipt, OR
  • Show your validated ticket,transfer or monthly
    pass to theoperator.
  • Make sure you also show theoperator your valid
    ID (driverslicense, state ID, Medicare cardor
    TriMet Honored Citizen card).

All TriMet buses are accessible
  • Ramps (on low-floor buses) andlifts (on
    high-floor buses) areprovided for passengers
    whocannot climb steps.
  • Dont hesitate to ask the busoperator to lower
    the lift or kneelthe bus so you can board
    easily.
  • All buses have priority seating for seniors and
    people with disabilities, plus two secure-ment
    areas for mobility devices.

Boarding MAX
  • Make sure you have a valid fare before boarding.
  • If you bought a single ticket from the machine,
    it is already stamped with an expiration time.
  • If youre using a ticket that you bought
    previously, insert it into the validation machine
    next to the ticket machine to get the ticket
    stamped with an expiration time.
  • Be prepared to show your validated ticket,
    transfer or monthly pass AND your ID to a TriMet
    fare inspector if asked.

All MAX trains are accessible
  • Every MAX train has at least one low-floor car
    equipped with boarding ramps at the middle two
    doors. To extend the boarding ramp, push the
    blue button. The doors will close, the ramp will
    extend and then the doors will re-open.
  • Seats next to the doors are reserved for seniors
    and passengers with disabilities.

  • Fareless Square is anarea that encompassesmost
    of downtownPortland and the LloydDistrict where
    rides onTriMet are FREE. Fareis not required
    unlessyou are traveling outsideof Fareless
    Square.

Downtown Transit Mall
  • The Downtown Transit Mall, spanning 36 blocks on
    5th 6th avenues in the heart of downtown
    Portland, is served by TriMets MAX Blue, Red and
    Yellow lines, 48 TriMet bus lines and the
    Portland Streetcar.

  • Know the address of your starting point and
    destination.
  • Tell the call-taker what time you need to
    arrive.
  • Have a pencil and paper ready to take down the
    information. The call-taker will tell you which
    stop to wait at, what time you need to be at
    the stop and which bus or MAX trains youll take
    to get to your destination.

  • In your web browser, typewww.trimet.org.
  • Type your origin and destinationaddresses in the
    Trip Plannerbox and select the date andtime you
    want to depart.
  • Click the Go button to seeyour trip itinerary.

Operator responsibilities
  • Operators announce major stops and transfer
    points.
  • Operators are trained to safely secure passengers
    in mobility devices.
  • Operators are ready and willing to answer your
    questions.

Were committed to your safety
  • TriMet operators are prepared to assist you in
    securing your mobility device on buses. There
    are no securement areas on MAX trains.
  • In case of an emergency on MAX, use the intercom
    to speak with the operator.

Night Stop service
  • If you are riding alone between 8 p.m. and 5
    a.m., you can ask the bus operator to stop
    anywhere along the route. He or she will pull
    over at a safe place to let you off. Night Stop
    is for drop-offs only operators can only pick up
    riders at designated stops.
  • Riders may be hard to see after dark. Increase
    your visibility by
  • Wearing brightly colored clothing
  • Signaling the operator with a flashlight or
    safety strobe and waving as your bus approaches.

LIFT Paratransit Service
  • For most people, the most convenient and flexible
    way to travel is regular TriMet bus and MAX
    service.
  • If youre unable to use TriMet buses and MAX due
    to a physical or mental disability, you can apply
    for LIFT, TriMets shared-ride transportation
    service.
  • The LIFT program is limited to people whose
    health condition or disability prevents them from
    using TriMet buses or MAX. There is an
    application process with specific criteria to
    determine eligibility.
